Hey, Butch, who ARE these guys?

These guys "are" Al Lewis. Al is founder, president, and sole full-time employee of the DMPC. Some facts about Al:

  • Named the most influential person in disease management by Healthcare Business, Managed Healthcare News, Disease Management News, the British Medical Journal and Humana Health Plans, Inc., while Managed Healthcare Executive even credits him (3/2002) with inventing disease management. (It's not actually true but that'll be our little secret.)
  • Conceived and advised the very first outsource (Humana and CORSolutions) February 1996
  • Founded the Disease Management Association of America, March 1999.
  • Went on Jeopardy in March 1987. (Lost due to some really stupid wagering. It's much harder than it looks when you're watching on TV.)
  • Prior to founding the DPMC, was Chief Executive Officer of Peer Review Analysis, Inc. (NASDAQ-PRAI) The previous CEO, Eric Spitzer, a man of excellent taste and very sound business judgment, joined the DMPC several years later.
  • Holds undergraduate and law degrees from Harvard University, Phi Beta Kappa.

In addition, Al retains and/or employs part-time staff with expertise in critical and emerging categories as follows:

Jeffrey Epstein is director for International Disease Management. Jeff identifies countries with emerging disease management needs and tracks changes in health care financing systems which make countries more or less amenable to disease management. He hosts seminars in these countries to teach disease management, and maintains the foreign-language portions of the website. An experienced international healthcare consultant fluent in several languages, he also has his own consulting practice and cross-fertilizes with DMPC. He holds a BA from Harvard and an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh.

Marina Kharitonova is DMPC's resident consultant in the area of data collection and analysis. Marina works onsite in several health plans to ensure data integrity and timely delivery of data. She maintains the database for comparative prevalences and costs for DMPC member health plans and ensures that the data output is consistent and valid. Her on-site presence complements Al Lewis' remote expertise to give DMPC member plans the best of both worlds, access to the founder together with onsite consulting. She holds a BS in Engineering from Northwestern University.

Peter Mahoney is a consultant to DMPC focused principally on building strategic alliances with state governments, public policy institutes, government and healthcare associations and organizations. Peter leverages a keen understanding of various stakeholders, both public and private, to structure and implement partnership strategy that meet financial, clinical, and policy needs of all parties. He utilized this expertise to assist the Founder with the launch of the Disease Management Association of America in 1999. As a senior executive in other organizations, Peter has conceived and implemented several creative collaborations that cover the spectrum of major healthcare constituencies. He holds an MBA in Healthcare Management & Policy from the Heller School at Brandeis University.
